Bonita, meaning pretty in Spanish, is located 10 miles south of San Diego and just north of Chula Vista, nestled in a beautiful valley with the Sweetwater River running through it. The valley is occupied by horses, trails, a large regional park, and large lots with mid-sized homes and tract homes. Some of the higher end Bonita real estate occupies hills and mesas, donating wonderful views of the valley and a select few of the ocean.

Many Bonita homes occupy the valley and rolling land that is surrounded by hills. Trees and shrubs create a neat landscape to well maintained neighborhoods and streets are clean. A country feel is present, though this neighborhood resembles many suburbs with a regional mall and several department stores.

Bonita Golf Club, one of two local courses, is one of the best public courses in the South County. The course is dotted with lakes and brush, making it long, lush, and quite challenging. The annual Bonitafest celebrates with local crafts, foods and a parade.

The community is part of the Sweetwater School District. Schools are competitive and renovation/construction bonds will soon enhance technological advances in teaching. A high percentage of residents are college graduates, contributing to education enforcement. Southwestern Community College is close by.
