Coronado, Spanish for “crowned” is both upscale and prestigious with the Pacific Ocean on one side and San Diego bay on the other. Coronado is called an island but is technically a peninsula as it is joined to the mainland by "The Silver Strand". A bridge, just over two miles long, connects Coronado to downtown, a great commute for local workers.

This distinct blue arch is large enough to allow battleships passage underneath to US Naval Air Station at North Island, a post that consumes over half of Coronado.

This includes training grounds for Navy SEALS, but there are no shortages of beachfront or great shopping in this quaint island village. Ferry service is also available to downtown San Diego.

Orange Avenue, the main thoroughfare, is home to a delightful collection of shops and services, including a small movie theater.

The Hotel del Coronado is Coronado’s most famous building. Choice of 14 US Presidents and numerous celebrities the "Dell" is a fairytale American castle built in 1887.

Coronado is uniformly flat and boasts the widest longest and possibly finest beaches in San Diego. There is also a public 18-hole golf course, a driving range, 17 parks, bike paths, and a town swimming pool. Many tourists visit this area, attracting vacation activities such as wind surfing and boating. Local schools are always winning awards for excellence and a $17 million bond was passed in 1997, adding science and technology centers to high school and overhauling the elementary school.

The main residential section is a charming village with palm lined avenues around 12 blocks east to west and 18 north to south. Much of the Coronado real estate was built before WWII and has an upscale art deco look. With square-grid streets cut by occasional diagonals, Coronado has a groomed and clean feeling to it.
