Scripps Ranch, also referred to as Scripps Miramar, is a well off community and a rather fresh face to the City of San Diego, incorporated in the seventies. Scripps ranch was originally founded in the 1890s by E.W. Scripps as a health spa and was transformed from arid land into a mountainous haven of Eucalyptus and cedars of Lebanon.
Country living was Scripps’ goal when he created this oasis among the metropolis of San Diego. Parks and trails are beautiful and plentiful, anchored by Miramar Lake. Stunning mountain views are almost as favorable in San Diego real estate as an ocean view.
Scripps is nestled in between Interstate 15 and Miramar Air station, giving the area a secluded atmosphere. With just over 7,000 housing units, Scripps maintains a small town feel, accented by much forestry compared to other areas of the city. Neighborhoods are spacious, well maintained, and perched along mesas, allowing for an abundance of beautiful countryside views. Scripps Ranch real estate contains Scripps, Miramar Reservoir, and Miramar Lake as areas of interest. The ranch is close to all the major attractions in San Diego but manages to retain its individual charm.
Commutes are convenient by I 15, except for rush hour congestion. The expansion of Highway 56 and incorporation of Scripps Poway Parkway are making for an easier alternative commute for residents of Scripps. There is also big money being put into the improvement of Interstate 15, causing less congestion for drivers. Business parks are plentiful within the community and just outside in Rancho Bernardo and Carmel Mountain Ranch. A wealth of jobs also exists at nearby Miramar Air Station.
Scripps Ranch school ranking are between the 80th and 90th percentiles and all public schools lead to Scripps Ranch High, unifying the community. A high percentage of parents are college graduates, increasing interest in school education and values. Education is further enforced with nearby Miramar College, offering courses to the community at large. Families find raising children favorable in a town with over 25% of its population under age 18.
